Description

This course provides birth professionals with strategies and systems for processing primary and secondary trauma while enabling them to recognize how unprocessed trauma can negatively impact their clients.

Learning Objective: Through the exploration of primary and secondary trauma and its influence on the way birth professionals interact with clients, this course demonstrates how to identify trauma, equips learners with strategies for processing it, and prepares them to apply mindfulness when trauma is experienced or triggered in order to stay present.

Lesson 1: Why Processing Trauma Is Important

This lesson enables attendees to comprehend the importance of processing their personal and secondary trauma. Attendees will gain the insight to recognize how unprocessed trauma can impact their ability to attune with clients, increase the risk of transferring their emotions to clients, and can potentially affect their ability to thrive and excel personally and professionally.

Lesson 2: Experiencing Trauma Personally & Professionally

Upon completion of this lesson attendees will recognize how a bias due to their personal trauma can negatively impact the clients that they support. Learners will have a comprehensive understanding of the three types of trauma, and will have the ability to differentiate between primary and secondary trauma.

Lesson 3: Steps to Process Your Trauma

Upon completion of this lesson, attendees will have the ability to curate, locate, and assemble various approaches to processing personal and secondary trauma.

Lesson 4: Coping Through Unexpected Triggers

Upon completion of this lesson,  attendees will have the ability to identify various approaches to coping with expected and unexpected triggers. Learners will be equipped with the ability to activate the senses in order to work through triggers, and will know how to implement executive control in order to stay present in the moment.
