Course Objective

Taught by a certified Infant Feeding Specialist, this course will prepare doulas with the knowledge to provide exceptional support for their formula feeding clients. Learners will gain an understanding of the emotional and practical considerations of formula feeding, receive detailed information surrounding types of formula and proper formula handling. Learners will leave this course feeling prepared to support clients who are formula feeding.

Lesson One – The Decision to Formula Feed

Learning Objective: In this lesson, learners will become familiar with the practical and emotional considerations their clients may be faced with when making the decision to formula feed. In addition, learners will be prepared to identify the guidelines regarding how much and how often to feed formula-fed babies.

Lesson Two – Picking a Formula

Learning Objective: In this lesson, learners will take an in-depth look at the various types of formulas along with the multiple factors clients may consider when choosing an infant formula.

Lesson Three – Safely Preparing and Feeding Formula

Learning Objective: Lesson three discusses safe preparation, handling, feeding, and storing of infant formula. Upon completing this lesson, learners will be equipped to assist clients with preparing and feeding formula.

Lesson Four – How Doulas Can Assist Clients with Formula Feeding

Learning Objective: In this lesson, learners will further explore the ways that doulas can help formula-feeding clients by making feedings as efficient as possible and by simplifying daily tasks.
